Suikoden 2 Codes Not working for me

Post by WD932 »

I am using emulator Classic Boy. I have been just sort of messing around with codes and can either get most of them to work by adding one line at a time or just using the first line. However I am trying to work with the D00... 5005 code for winning Karen's dance but it fails everytime. I am obviously stuck at stage 3 everytime I play. I am not blessed with any type of rhythm gene and well my eyesight and hand coordination are shot due to ailments (my wife has to type for me.) When I saw the code I was hopeful that I could put it in just to see it through the various stages. I have tried splitting the two lines and activating as well as the code in one box (using '+' in between) to no success. This and the Whack-a-Mole type of games are hard for me because of timing but the Mole I could get the code to work. Is there a different code to get the various stages of dance to win always? I mean I can always use a code to get the items, but not what I am looking for. Look forward to your fast replies (possible or not) thank you.

I'm pretty sure those codes have never worked. When I was testing the patches, I can't remember if I just discovered that I was better at the game than I expected to be, or if I resorted to a more general slow-mo approach. In any case, I remember that "Always successful in Karen dance" code didn't work for me.

It looks like Classic Boy is an Android/mobile emulator, so the easy approach of using Cheat Engine's speed-hack feature to slow the game down won't work. Is there an option to limit the emulation speed or framerate temporarily? If so, I recommend trying that. Otherwise, a generic slow-mo hack could work. Your mileage may vary depending on if Classic Boy recompiles or makes some sort of effort to protect unused kernel RAM.

I will give that a check and see if it helps me out. It is not one of the features I see readily and may be behind a paywall to use (such and the continue from last spot before closing, save, load and import states are.) So if the code is entered will it interfere with anything else if I have to enter it one line at a time? The cheats part of Classic Boy is picky. Sometimes all can be in one and sometimes it has to be one line at a time. When it does one line at a time the single line sometimes affects an unplanned item in the game. Also thank you for the quick and thorough reply! :)

Well, when you say "one line at a time" does it seem like it's asking you to enter a line so it can make the update to the game once? Or is it just kind of a janky entry system and it runs the codes constantly in the background anyway, like traditional devices? For instance, if you do something like Max Potch, will it set the value once and then let the game change it normally, or does it keep updating the value from the cheat?

I kind of doubt it's the first one. That would be weird and nigh useless. However, as it's freeware with locked features, I feel compelled to check.

Anyway, as long as it keeps processing the cheat constantly, it'll be fine. None of the writes could be particularly harmful if you entered them alone. But when you get to the first code that starts with D that's an issue. It doesn't do much on its own. It just tests a condition, in this case whether a particular button has been pressed, and then allows the next line to run if it's true. If the emulator is doing the weird version, probably to coax you to pay, I don't think it'll work with D codes at all. It won't be checking the condition constantly, so it'll either never do the next line, or it'll just always do the next line. Neither of which is very helpful.

8006A4F8 FFFF is the single line potch code I use. What happens with this code is when it is on it displays the 65535 (FFFF) and does not go down when purchasing but when winning or selling an item it will go up by a number close to 65535 (with 9 instances of this it goes to x10 but reads 655359 Potch.) It also goes to above max Potch displayed but stores show 999999. When I uncheck the porch is treated as normal and goes down with purchase. Wish I could post a picture of others that I have entered to easier explain what I have done with large codes like the kitchen mini game always get 7's for each meal. Maybe in a bit I will write it out and then get the gist of what I mean by each line.

800256C3 7B7B Kitchen
800256C4 7B7B Side
800256C5 7B7B Game
800256C6 7B7B Max
800256C7 7B7B Score
800256C8 7B7B Choose
800256CA 7B7B Recipes
800256CC 7B7B Then
800256CE 7B7B Turn
800256D0 7B7B On
800256D2 7B7B Codes!

So that is how it looks on my screen (roughly as I changed each title for the code line) and there is a check box to activate each line next to each. Now when I try to add it all in one header by either using '+' between each code or under one header by hitting return the whole thing does not work. It only works separately with a different header and hitting the checkbox for each line. Also while looking at the code where would I be able to change the score amount and the auto click for prep time in the event?
There is the easy Whack-a-Mole code that works for me but I have to put it on two lines "D0023C4C 0960 and 80023C4C 008A" which gets the prize everytime.

It sounds like it works more or less normally, once the code is entered. The entry sounds janky, but that's fine. Just don't enter or checkmark anything that appears below a D code without first having the D code active, and it should be OK.

I deliberately mentioned "Max Potch" because that single line, infinite potch code freezes 2 out of 4 bytes that make up the potch value in the game, and I was concerned it would be a confusing example. What you described is exactly the behavior I'd expect from a typical cheat loop doing constant writes, though.

I did find a slow motion feature on my emulator. Trying to tweek that a bit to see how much it slows down. Barring that I have your code to work with and slow it down too. Thanks for the swift replies!
