Suikoden Tierkreis sold 20,529 copies in its third week according to the sales history of vgchartz.com
I am relieved that the sales did not drop below 20K seeing that Suikoden V on its third week sold only 10,337 copies

The other spin-off, that is Rhapsodia, sold only 6,410 copies on its third week with a combined total sales of 59,438. In ten weeks Rhapsodia sold around 71K copies.

Depends on what our measure of success is.
If our benchmark is Suikoden III, for example, maybe not.

Re: So, has Tierkreis been a success or not?
i think before we can decide on its success we ought to compare its NA sales versus the previous games. As a spinoff, it seems to be doing quite well, but as a mainstream it doesn't seem to be doing as well.

But its a spinoff, so it's doing quite well for now.
I mean has it surpassed the production cost?? Sorry, I'm an ignoramus at those things. XDRunemaster wrote:It's gonna double Tactics' sales!!!

Well, only Konami really knows that. I don't think companies release anything about production cost. Part of the reason its on DS is probably to lower the production cost, though. Development for DS likely costs considerably less than for a full home console.Runemaster wrote:I mean has it surpassed the production cost?? Sorry, I'm an ignoramus at those things. XD

Unless it actually overtakes Suikoden V by a significant amount and ends up around Suikoden IV or III's numbers I can't see how it can be considered a successful reboot of the series if the newly attracted fans aren't enough to replace the old fans that don't want it.

Re: So, has Tierkreis been a success or not?
Those numbers are definitely not stellar and absolutely disappointing if Suikoden Tierkreis is to be considered the rebirth of the series. I do not believe that Suikoden Tierkreis was developed for that purpose and all that is said about attracting a new fanbase is baseless. Konami did not do much effort to advertise Suikoden Tierkreis which is a clear indication that it was not meant to be the savior of the series.
After the drop in sales seen in the last few installments of Suikoden, Konami cannot just allocate a high budget for the series. Konami need to look for something that would keep the series alive and at the same time does not cost much. Konami might want to do some big changes to the series but they cannot risk it on a major installment. The development cost on the DS is much less compares with the PS3/Xbox360 so Konami might have decided to implement those changes on a spin-off that won't cause much loss in terms of profit.
The sales so far are barely satisfactory to cover for the development cost on the DS.

Re: So, has Tierkreis been a success or not?
How can you possibly say that the notion that Tierkreis was supposed to attract a new fanbase is baseless when Masayukii says as much himself in interviews?
However, it's also true that previous Suikoden releases have been relatively niche titles. We want as many people as possible to enjoy Suikoden: Tierkreis, which is why we chose to create a new game universe, as it won't be burdened by backstory that new players wouldn't have an understanding of.
we'll continue to develop games that will expand the core appeal of the franchise to a wider audience
With this in mind, I think our goal will be to create new games that attract as many new players to the established franchise in order to grow the fan base.

Those are words that came of from Masayukii but were not put into action. Suikoden Tierkreis advertisement campaign speaks for itself. Konami did not put much effort to advertise Suikoden Tierkreis to new fans other than showing it in TGS and having 2 short commercials.

Lies. If this flops, there won't be a Suikoden VI. If this succeeds, Suikoden VI will likely be a spin off of Tierkries.we'll continue to develop games that will expand the core appeal of the franchise to a wider audience
In other words, abandon the world of the old game entirely to try and cash in.With this in mind, I think our goal will be to create new games that attract as many new players to the established franchise in order to grow the fan base.

Re: So, has Tierkreis been a success or not?
Oh I don't know about that. Suikoden has never really sold well, but they keep making it regardless. I think even given Tierkries lack luster sales they might still make Suikoden VI. What they won't do is have a Tierkries II.Braxiatel wrote:Lies. If this flops, there won't be a Suikoden VI.
