63K sales over the weekend. There you have it.
In terms of sales numbers, the game needs to more than double its sales in the next three days to match its direct predecessor Suikoden V) and gain less than 7K to match its spinoff predecessor, Rhapsodia.
As far as spinoff games go, we're still hanging in the average.

As the lowest grossing JRPG in that pack, save for the CG version of Tales of Hearts, it might very well be seen as a bad thing if this were a main series entry. As a spinoff, it's about on par with Rhapsodia.

But as a way to re-generate interest in the series, as people are suggesting, it's been a failure.

Whoa, poor thing. Konami should have known better instead of pitting its saving-the-franchise move head-on against the likes of Dissidia and Tales of Hearts. (And, apparently a certain Wagamama Fashion game, whatever that is.)
If this attempt at reinventing the series fails to match even Suikoden V's heavy references, then maybe Konami would finally consider pulling the plug completely.

Re: So, has Tierkreis been a success or not?
Quite honestly, I don't think releasing the game a week later would've done much. Most large releases usually have up to a month's worth of fallout. Considering how the insanely popular Dissidia and Tales of Hearts released last week and the highly anticipated Shirokishi Monogatari (White Knight Chronicles) came out this week (with a few others), Suikoden Tierkreis really had no window for launch pre-'09.
We'll see if things remain steady (like LittleBigPlanet) or die down exponentially (like Suikoden V).

Eh, I'm not talking about short negligible time difference like a week later either.
There's no reason that they HAVE to sell it pre-09, is there?

Re: So, has Tierkreis been a success or not?
Most big title names are launched around this time in Japan, for some reason. There's a big rush of games prior to Christmas (on on it) and then everything goes under for a couple of months in the new year. Add on to that the upcoming Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles in January and you can see that Namco and Square Enix monopolize the DS for a few months into the new year, nearly matching the US release.
I think Konami wasn't expecting Namco to push Tales of Hearts back a week. Their reaction was to leave things as-is instead of move it back one week (or more) and potentially lose even more money on marketing the game too early. The hype machine was active as early as TGS '08, which means they would've had to add on month after month of continued advertising and hope things don't die down by the time mid winter or spring comes along.

really nice analysis there LanceHeart...
so basically its a "now or never" situation
which translates that if they didn't release Tierkreis
their other option is to release it around Q3-Q4 of 2009

So it's safe to say Suikoden Tierkreis sold more than the average spinoff already, though considerably less than a usual main series entry.

In its third week in sales Suikoden Tierkreis did not make it to the top 30 for the week of 12/29/2008 - 01/04/2009
