Spammers / Bots / Advertisers
Per our rules, posting just to advertise is against the rules. Anybody blatantly advertising will immediately get banned.
From now on, any mention of "WoW power" becomes "WoW Power"
We've seen a bunch of bots or whatever advertising their WoW crap and I'll appreciate it if you report them in this thread.

Re: WoW gold advertisers
Not just that! Lately, I saw posts advertising apparels, clothes or something. Crappy, crappy. It kinda caught my eye for me to laugh about it.
But yeah, I know, who cares they don't deserve anybody's attention. But next time, I'll really try my best to give them a pinch of my attention and report them to you guys.

Spammers
I know, I know, we all want them gone and I'm sure the admins are doing everything they can.
However, I just wanted to get an official post from an admin about what's going on. All of a sudden we're getting multiple spammers every day and was curious if anything was being done to counter this.
I'm not even remotely complaining or saying "OMG GET ON IT NOW!" because you guys are clearing it all out extremely promptly (way more efficient than most of the forums I've been on so bravo on that) but was just curious if there was anything to say about it.

Re: Spammers
No idea. We're just seeing a lot more spammers today for some reason.
What's worse, even if I delete the posts along with the bot account, the same bot will regitser again and post the same stuff again. Thus, I've also been banning their e-mail address while deleting their accounts.
Working on a permanent countermeasure, but it depends on whether somebody with root access will inject some code into this phpbb3.

Re: Spammers
Are you guys looking for any new admins? I assume no because sites like these tend to have guys who've been admins for centuries. However, I seem to have the forums up quite a bit and would be glad to help out if you're in need.

So you can't ban their IP address?

New spammers have made their way here recently.
The Are You Human? test is like...50/50
I guess the Identify the characters at the image used by most websites works better.

Re: WoW gold advertisers (and other blatant advertisers)
The registration process requires a visual confirmation via code matching an image and, in addition to that, I have recently installed an anti-bot question, that just needs some fixes. We'll see if that helps.
Another solution would be setting the account activation by admins. But I suppose that would be far more work then deleting a bot each day

Ah was that available since before? I'm sorry for that if it's the case.CelesDestiny wrote:The registration process requires a visual confirmation via code matching an image

Don't know how long this has been up already. Checked last time when I created my own account
The visual confirmation has been set harder now. Perhaps this helps a bit as well.

Re: Spammers
Banning by IP address is rarely a good idea as many people share the same IP addresses when they are receiving their internet from certain companies. We don't want to ban our regular people by accident.

Ah..I see.Oppenheimer wrote: Banning by IP address is rarely a good idea as many people share the same IP addresses when they are receiving their internet from certain companies. We don't want to ban our regular people by accident.
And that also includes internet cafes and such.
Yah, maybe it's best to merge these.Oppenheimer wrote:There's already a sticky on this topic: http://www.suikosource.com/phpBB3/viewt ... 25&t=10121
