There are a few possibilities. There's a version 1.1 of this game. The main executable is different, so if you have that, the routines may not be in the same place. And another is that the GS Lite for the PS1 doesn't support the "D" code type, but in most cases the cheat device would just ignore commands it can't handle and process those it can.
When you say GS Lite, I hope you're referring to the PSX cheat disc. If it's a PS2 device, you can't use PSX codes with it.
And lastly, it's always possible that you entered something incorrectly, or if the game requires a Master code on that device, you don't have it.

Re: [Codes] Codebreaker: Unlock True Rune spells (S1 and S2)
I am using the PS1 cheat disk.
I have other codes for other games that have lines starting with D and they work fine (the level-up code for Suikoden 2 uses it, for example). I've never needed a master code for Gameshark Lite on any other game. I know everything is input correctly. I just checked it again.
It sounds like I might have version 1.1? How would I know?

The easiest way to check is to put the disc in your computer and check the date on the MAIN.EXE file. If it's 1996, version 1.0; 1997 version 1.1.

1997. So I have version 1.1, then.
I guess that's why the codes don't work? Oh well.

Re: [Codes] Codebreaker: Unlock True Rune spells (S1 and S2)
I see that there are individual character codes on codetwink, and for most stats.
Does anyone know if there's a way to set a character's HP to a certain value (ie: set HP for Stallion to 860)? I see that the HP codes are for infinite HP only.
EDIT: Well, what I ended up doing was changing the level of the character's HP I wanted adjusted, then making sure they leveled up with a certain HP value
On that note, for anyone interested, here is how you can select your own end-game party using gameshark.
- Make a party with 5 characters
- Save your game
- Enable this code
D01B800E 0001
301B800B 006C
D01B800E 0001
301B800C 006D
- Switch the first character with the second
- Save the game, and then reset
- Load the game, and you'll have Ted in the forth slot, and Odessa in the fifth
- Disable the code
If you are end game, this lets you replace Viktor and Flik if they are in the forth and fifth slots. They will return to their places in the castle. You can remove Odessa and Ted without consequence. Note that once you add Flik and Viktor to the party, they will be locked into your party once again. With this code, you can go as far as the floating garden where Barbarossa is standing, but if you complete the final battle, the game will lock.
Still, this is great for trying out a custom battle team end game for fun, or for grinding for rare items and runes.

Re: [Codes] Codebreaker: Unlock True Rune spells (S1 and S2)
I started to play for Suikoden 1 again for the first time in many many years this week. I noticed the cheatcode on CodeTwink.com for Tir McDohl's attached rune modifier is wrong on their website (weapon level code is wrong too).
It says: Attached Rune Modifier is: 301B8290 00??
However, the correct code for the Hero's attached rune is:
301B82E0 00??

I will establish one mighty nation in this land. A single, powerful nation, born of force and wielding force. That is the one and only way of freeing this land from war.

Re: [Codes] Codebreaker: Unlock True Rune spells (S1 and S2)
I'm trying to perfectly set up a save to transfer to Suikoden 2 after my current playthrough, so I intended to use a bunch of codes to save time and effort. However, I'm emulating it through RetroArch, and almost none of the codes I've been able to find (including the ones in RA's downloadable cheats document) actually work. If anyone's used Retroarch to play this, have you found what cheats are functional? I thought RA just used Gameshark codes, but the way that only a couple of the cheats I've found have worked at all makes me wonder whether RA isn't compatible with them, or I'm just entering them incorrectly. (You have to replace spaces with + I believe...)
I was hoping to use the XP multiplier cheat and that amazing "All drops have 1/3rd chance" gameshark code that Pyriel made, but no luck. And I've looked through the threads about gameshark codes here, so I've already made sure I've got a 1.0 copy of the game, not 1.1.

I'm not sure what cores RetroArch offers for the Playstation these days. If the default one is still one of the recompiling cores, that's probably your issue.

Aha, different cores affecting the cheats seems obvious now that it's pointed out. I've currently got Beetle PSX and PCSX Rearmed as options for RA's PS1 emulator, and I've only used Beetle. I'll have to see if other cores are compatible with the codes out there.
