Official Names
it's Tierkreis's turn!
Official name of the hero?
the castle?
the army?
I know there hasn't been REAL official names for everything at the Suikoworld but we need near-official names for Tierkreis as always!
Rumors say it's Sieg for the Hero. Ratselhaft for the castle and Viele Wege for the company. Are there proofs for these?

If you looked just a few posts down or did a search you could have found the thread Illustrations and Artworks + Character Guide, which includes that information.

Re: Official Names
Don't forget the umlaut, Rätselhaft.
Taking a note from all the officially licensed alternatives (novel's Freyjadour, card's Faroush, comic's Adil) given to the Prince from Suikoden V, we know the fanbase doesn't really consider anything but the novel names as "official", so do whatever you want with these names.
Thanks to the Drama CDs, we know that "Tir" and "Riou" have been elevated to official-without-being-default status, so we know Konami recognises these names anyway.

I say let's discuss them here.
So umlaut means 'ä' huh. What does it do in the pronunciation anyway?patapi wrote:Don't forget the umlaut, Rätselhaft.

Umlaut is ¨ and applies vowels.Runemaster wrote:So umlaut means 'ä' huh
Changes it obviously. There's a reason it's called vowel mutation.Runemaster wrote:What does it do in the pronunciation anyway?

Well, if you pronounce it German, it makes a whole lot of a difference. So umlaut means 'ä' huh. What does it do in the pronunciation anyway?
Ratselhaft: Wrat-sel-houghed
Rätselhaft: Rate-sel-houghed
Well, that's the best way for English speakers to pronounce it, I guess.

Re: Official Names
So that explains it. Rateselhoughed huh? Pretty tricky.
I can see the only German influences in the game are the name of the game, hero, army and castle. I wonder why?

Re: Official Names
I really don't know, I guess because Japanes elove our language!? Was there any connection between the subtitles of the Xenosaga-Games and their content? How can someone connect Nietzsche and a RPG?Runemaster wrote:So that explains it. Rateselhoughed huh? Pretty tricky.

Re: Official Names
I have no idea about Xenosaga (Xenogears disc 2 is off-putting enough), but Konami includes not just German influences in the series, but also a whole load of others. Suikoden V had Zoroaster, for example.
Guess this time around they chose to go with German all the way; beginning with the word Tierkreis in the game's title.

Re: Official Names
There are still a few French influences in this game, as well. But I'll mention one name that nobody else would get outside of Quebec (since' it's a phonetic similarity):
Cho'lui Mountains actually sound very close to a chocolate treat we have over here dubbed "Jos Louis".
Luvais seems like a French name in writing.
Tuhululu seems like a morph on the French non-word "Tralalala, Trulululu, Trolololo..."
Lycia and Servillah seem like Japanese mispronunciations of "Lycée" and "Servir", respectively. (Lycée is kind of like High School, Servir is the verb To Serve)
Amarlicht & Quillard seem like names you'd find closer to the Alzace region, where German and French names seem to combine.
Mourgent seems like a French name in writing.
That's what I have for now.

Mh I don't know... I always thought the Furious Roar people were named after some animals. Diulf always sounded very much like "Wolf" to me, Cougar and Tiger are self-explaining...Lycia and Servillah seem like Japanese mispronunciations of "Lycée" and "Servir", respectively. Yes, the other one would be that Lycia is actually Lynx.
