[Mods] Project Kyaro: a tiny texture pack for Suikoden 2

Project Kyaro ver:2.0
An enhanced visual experience of Suikoden 2 by combining the xBR filtering and texture replacement capability of Beetle PSX HW on Retroarch. This is a just a small weekend project inspired the upscale project of chrono cross. The main goal is be able to play the game with less pixels to achieve that HDish/RemasteredISH look so if like your pixels you might to skip on this one.

Features Upscaled images of:
Character portraits
Typeface/Font replacement
Rune/s Texture replacement
Battle backgrounds
Special Menus ( Castle Storage, Investigations , Etc)
xbr filtering on All sprites Via retroarch

Change Log / Version:
2.0 – added ending backgrounds and more battle bgs , fixed transparency of some runes
1.5 – added other portraits of Pilika, Neclord , Jowy and Julia
1.0 – Initial release
Modified Upscaled portraits, Konami logo, Initial text support
Alpha – Character portraits upscale (never released)
Instructions:
Install RetroArch and Beetle PSX HW

Recommended Folder Structure .

Wherever you decide to place your main BIN / Iso file , it is recommended that it is contained on its own folder because you need two folders to be present in the same directory.
Make sure that the filename of your game MATCHES the Filename that is in the Cue file.
Create two folders and append -texture-dump and -texture-replacements on their names respectively
dump the contents texture mod on the texture-replacements folder

Configuration :

Code: Select all


Load the game and press f1
Select Options
Make sure the Renderer is VULKAN
software frame buffer: OFF
Internal GPU Resolution : 2x
Texture Filtering : xBR ( preffered is xBR, SABR is also good. Nearest if you want to keep the Pixels)
Track textures: ON
Replace Textures: ON

Optional : Reshade
install Reshade with vulkan renderer and make sure it runs globally.
preferred shader : HDR
Compatibility:
The mod is compatible to files patched with https://github.com/pyriell/gs2-bugfixes . As for difficulty modded files you might need to run you bin/iso file

Hi! Thx for this amazing mod. I m french and i use it on a french version! But your font doesn't work very well on it because in french we have some words with accents (like é è à î ù) and these letters was replaced by blanks, so it was dificult to read. Then i allowed myself to slightly modifiy your font file to add lowercase letters with accents and it works good.
For people who need this, in the folder "texture-replacements", you must change all files from this list with my file.

not promising anything but on my next playrhrough of suikoden 1 ... i will texture dump the game.

guys i am trying to run the Hard Mod of Suikoden 2 with retroarch but the modded game does not start it remains black screen, normal game runs fine but the modded one doesnt i tried repairing it with eccr141 still nothing, can someone help me i would love to play the hard mod with the textures, thanks

Hello ,thanks a lot for the mod . It worked perfectly but when I try to load the game by pressing F1 and then load , textures will be back to default .And by default I mean HD textures are not shown, but filters and such are still there.

Not 100% sure, but this is old-school forum software, and probably has edit/delete limits based on user groups. An admin would have to change that, or elevate your permissions.

I'm not aware of any such setting.

When it comes to editing the OP, does a specific message come up, or do you get some generic error (like a blank screen)?
