Suikoden Retirement Home

Post by sticky-runes »

Suikoden 2 gave us a mission where you have to select only the youngest recruits available, so we could pose as students to infiltrate a college town and find out what happened to an important politician. Now, imagine if a game had a mission where we need to select characters old enough to move into a rest home!

Since the tenkai star is always a youngster, he would probably have to pretend to be someone's grandchild or something. And your group of elderly warriors and sorcerers get treated to soft, comfy beds and hot meals, and maybe even a bath from an attractive young care worker! They exchange war stories and memories of lost loves with other old codgers and start to feel comfortable, taking a break from the hustle and bustle of your castle full of mostly young soldiers. Then the enemies show up and your old guys have to heroically fight their way out, just like the youngsters did during the Greenhill mission.

Yeah but there's a serious lack of old characters by this point of the game, and most of them are non-playable. You have Mazus but he is available much later in the game. Old people like Taki, Maximillian or Tenkou are non-playable. So who would go there? Even if this mission occurred at the late parts of the game, the only old person who fights is Mazus...and Sierra or maybe Pesmerga if they count.

Doesn't have to be in Suikoden 2's timeline. I think the first game had the most elderly playable characters in it, though. Kai, Hellion, Liukan, Fukien, Mace... It's kind of annoying that Max was never usable in combat.

In 5 you needed to have an elderly character in your group who was at a high level to recruit Genoh, but options were quite slim. Alhazred, Levi and Galleon. Sairoh and Raja couldn't be used. Jeane, Eresh and Zerase are old but ageless. Oh, and I think some of the dwarves and beavers might have been older folks.

This just goes to show that we need more oldies in Suikoden games. They needn't all be human either. Give us some old kobolds and wingers.

How on earth Levi and Galleon are "elderly"? They were middle-aged by the time of S5 events. (48 and 52 years old respectively)
