Military strength of Falena...

Ask questions about the events that take place during the Suikoden games themselves.

Cathari mentions being sent to observe the situation and in her blurb says that the empire she comes from would not involve themselves with Falena for years to come.

Years to come indicating eventually it may happen. Also someone mentioned the Sun Rune as a weapon - yes, thre Sun Rune CAN be a weapon, HOWEVER, we've seen what happens when the Sun Rune is used as such; it would destroy not only the enemy but cause a destruction far beyond human decency. The Sun Rune being used if Falena were invaded might destroy invaders, but Falena itself would also be destroyed.

Also, this statement is considering that Falena is the only country with a True Rune that could do that - Harmonia likely has gotten a hold of several True Runes.
ding ding ding! ^^ I was waiting for posts/people to mention Cathari since I myself just got her last night and her comments with Lucretia were nuggets of gold! (although it expands the story, it left me more with questions)
-who is Lucretia truly?
-what cause did she turn her back on?
-Cathari = Harmonia, no doubts about it.. does that mean Lucretia was a top strategist for the Harmonian kingdom? ...perhaps a lost princess o_O (lol, yay imagination)
-her comments about nations up north greatly interested and more important: observing the events currently going down in the Falenan kingdom.. Scarlet Moon? Harmonia? hmm..
-Sun Rune: people definitely know about it.. and are interested in it for its WMD-like capabilities

but yea, this whole new branch on the story got me sooo interested, we may even see future-suikoden game groundwork being laid down

Lucretia seems like a true believer that a country should serve its people; she deserted Lord Godwin because of his ambitions, and "ate Lord Barrows alive" because of his treacherous intentions (allying with Armes, puppeteering the Prince, stealing the Dawn Rune).

I think the fact that she's not related to the Silverberg line of top-of-the-line strategists means that it may be possible for us to see future showdowns between master strategists (similar to what Zhuge Liang and his Wei rival did in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms).

Sun Rune ... well, other nations may not be "interested" per se on it, but rather fearful of its misuse and determined to prevent future catastrophes. And it's a national and royal treasure of Falena (whose people is always reciting that "their authority is as powerful as the sun"), so it might be common knowledge which country is safekeeping it.

well to comment towards these 'harmonia invading falena' theorys
one forgets that they would have to traverse
the city states of suikoden 2
the scarlet moon empire of sui 1
kooluk and the island nations of sui4

just to get to falena

its a tad dilusional to believe that they would traverse all that teritory with many troops
and that doesnt even include the certinty of other nations taking this as an act of agression against them

Don't forget that Harmonia had many True Runes at their disposal. Lets see, Beast Rune, True Wind Rune, True Earth Rune, Circle Rune and other that may be hid in secrecy.

She also studied military arts of war in Harmonia. If you spoke to Cathari before storming Sol-Falena, after speaking with Georg, she would say that Lucretia was studying military strategy back home, but unlike her, Lucretia came to Sol Falena on her own will, and not like Cathari who was just following the Howling Voice Guild's orders.

Regarding her origins, only God knows where did she come from. ^_~;

Anyway,

Let's not forget the True Fire Rune used by the Flame Champion, when it went berserk and ended up nuking and wiping both the Grassland Allied AND Harmonian forces, leaving only the Flame Champion himself standing in the hellish battlefield. That's only the True Fire Rune, imagine what other elemental True Rune can do (imagine Luc's True Wind Rune in Suikoden II).

Also we barely know anything about Harmonia's armed forces. But we do know that from all the events happening in the Suiko world that its a superpower and may held the most possesion of the True Runes.

About their Manpower all we know that they're made up of halberd -soldiers, maybe archers (rune archers), and of course their CIA like ops, the HVG. We don't know about their navy....yet, and hardly knew if they're on par with the Island Nations (which is definitely the best). But we DO know that Harmonia probably has the best military academy in Suikoden.
