Charlemagne is a man always willing to give a helping hand, as he is first observed by Lazlo in Middleport, offering to pay the bill of Helga, who had trashed her room there. Seeing this, he was offered to join his forces, which he accepted.

On the ship, Charlemagne became quite good friends with Schtolteheim Reinbach III, who shared his aristocratic flair, fencing style, and appreciation of friendship. Originally just a citizen of Middleport, Charlemagne was given noble status following the war, at the nomination of his friend.

A couple years later, when bandits steal his dear friend's Rose Crest, he is asked to retrieve it for him. He finally catches up to the bandits at the Terana Plains in Kooluk, and is assisted by Kyril and his party, who were contracted to find the Crest themselves (Reinbach had feared Charlemagne dead by this point). Together they routed the bandits, and returned the Rose Crest to its owner in Middleport. Upon hearing of Kyril's quest for rune cannons, Charlemagne and Reinbach together decided to aid Kyril, now their dear friend, in battle. - KoRnholio
