Ranks and medals

what do ranks essentially do? and do the medals have any significance?

edit: I realise there's another thread about this, but that thread dosn't explain what ranks do and I also wanted to learn about medals so I thought id create a topic soley for ranks and medals

I don't know about the metals, but aren't some events/characters only available through high ranks? Or are those quest ranks? *sputters and dies*

ive discovered you can equip the medals, whats the point of this?

Yep it gives +1 defence for bronze->gold medals, I'm not sure what medal you get for S rank so I'm not sure what bonus it gives. I'm guessing at the moment the medals may be similar to Lottery Tickets in that something may unlock their better bonuses.

As for ranks - you get better medals: C - bronze, B - Silver, A - Gold, and you may get prizes but I'm not sure. I know for one of the battles I got a Killer Ring as a bonus prize (1 of the early battles) but then restarted because I missed a treasure chest and didn't get the prize again despite getting the same rank. Damn that drunken pirate for beating the final enemy, damn him!

EDIT: OK this is weird:
Bronze Medals: +15HP, +1 DEF
Silver Medals: +10HP, +1 DEF
Gold Medals: +5HP, +1 DEF
Don't ask why better medals give less HP, I think I'm missing something, some hidden stat or something.

The medals are only useful if you sell them. Otherwise they're a waste of an item/equipment slot.

I got an S rank in the Razril battle where you and Andarc clean up some furballs and there are two elemental things both lightning and fire.

I got a "Razril Knight Token" which is +5 to STR and DEF.

I got a rank S when fighting steele and got Steele's shield so it seems you can get some rare items for a rank S

Does anyone know what you do to get better ranks?

I usually get c or b ranks.
