Whats the deal with Helmut?

Well, obviously enough.

He lead the Kooluk fleet that attacked Razril but didn't actually have to fight as Commander Snowe Vingerhut surrendered straight away. He gets defeated by the Tenkai Star's army and surrenders in exchange for the lives of his men, he then agrees to join the Tenkai to ensure his mens safety. He's also the son of Colton.

Son of Colton??! and so Helmut was one of the ones who attacks the Hero and Snowe's Naval ship in the begining?

No, that was Pirate Brandeau working of his own accord.

And, yes, Helmut is the son of Colton.

Colton and Helmut seemed to have a sort of estranged relationship, but there is a scene with the two of them that sort of sheds some light on the both of them. And yes, Pirate Brandeu was the one to attack Snowe and the Hero's ship in the beginning of the story.

Then he just disappears with his dad at the end.....

When he joined the group, and Colton didn't, I was looking forward to some sabotage-type things from Helmut.

he was in charge of invadig razril and I think the only reason he even got that position is because hes coltons son

Where do you learn that Colton is Helmut's father. Can you take Helmut to see Colton when he is a prisoner on your ship for a special scene.

There's a scene between the two of them on the night of the final attack. The fact that Colton is Helmut's father is revealed in that scene. Oddly enough, there is no scene between the pair when you bring Helmut to talk to Colton.
