Re: Cut Content
@Raww: Could you maybe look into the Japanese script? But yeah, it's really wonky, and five parties would be overdose, and something special would not fit into the army system. Maybe it was meant to be 5 duels!? We should have asked Murayama, lol.

I don't have a hextable for the Japanese editions so I can't check any of them I'm afraid.
And I'd be impressed if Murayama could remember the specifics of one throw-away line 20+ years later.

Well, more along the lines of if the story of the game received any dramatical changes during development. But yeah, I guess he'd have said "I don't remember.. probably yes!"

Re: Cut Content
The division into 5 battalions doesn't make any sense at all to me, I mean in the game. My guess is that they took that idea from the novel (like so many other ideas in S1), where the whole army is restructured before many major battles. The number 5 makes me think of the chinese tradition to have a supreme capital in the center and 4 additional capitals to every cardinal direction (e.g. Beijing literally means "Northern Capital"). I don't see any reason to divide the army into 5 parts at this point, unless it's specifically for that last operation, like attacking from 4 sides and have the main army led by the hero storm the castle. Furthermore, looking at the war battle system, the division still doesn't make sense. And why would they introduce a different system this late?
I really wonder what they had in mind...

regardless of how difficult it might have been (and this is Suikoden, so it would still be easy), requiring 5 parties in the first game would have been EPIC, and people would have been less impressed at Luca Blight's 3-party battle

Raww, do have time to add these lines to the In Depth Analysis? I will dig up more when I go through the translation again and it will become all in a tumble here sooner or later.
Perhaps we should add these stuff as well. At least the unused room in gregminster palace.
Unused items
Shrike crystal - Kasumi's rune
Falcon crystal - Valeria's rune
Flame crystal - Bell's rune
Junk - Junk
Some key items have descriptions (although they won't reveal much)
Suiko Map - See map
Astral Conclusions - Leknaat's results
Earrings - Odessa's earrings
Running Water Root - Dwarves' treasure
Fake orders - Fake orders to prison
Fire Spear - Fire spear
Moonlight grass - Medical materials
Mathiu's letter - Letter
Binoculars - During battle, 2P...

Actually you could have multiple parties during the final battle in SII as well.
- Teresa (with Shin) leads a party against Lucia
- Riou leads another party, but fights Han solo.
- Viktor and Flik lead a party against Seed and Culgan
- Shu (with Apple maybe) leads a party against Leon (they will fight the Beast Rune incarnation)
I believe it would add some difficulty since we'd have to use 24 characters instead of 6.

Oh sorry! Well I guess you know what I mean. If you have played SII then you know Riou fights Han on his own.

Re: Cut Content
Has anyone ever seen one of these lines in game actually? Both are stored in the files used for the Forest Village, Great forest and Kobold Village areas. However, I don't remember them from the game.
I don't have a clue about this one ...
Obviously this could trigger if you try to pass the Great Forest without an elf in the active party. But there is no text if you do so.

We're almost there. (nl)
Right?

The Don't give up/we're almost there stuff sounds like the dialogue from when we're traveling over Mt. Tigerwolf with Odessa and we meet Ledon.

Gregminster (most likely Sonyas house):

Code: Select all
Hero, this is a gift for
you. Will you accept it?
Of course, it would be better
if you never had to use these
herbs.
