[Guide] Hugo vs Chris duel
Has anyone compiled a list of Chris' speech-actions for the Hugo/Chris duel? I don't think I'll be reloading and reloading to write down anymore. If there are no more contributions I'll update the Duel Guide soon.
This duel ends in 3 rounds or until one side is KOed. The outcome does not affect the following scenes whatsoever. In order to win, you'll need to do significant grinding to get Hugo's ATK high enough to take out Chris' HP in 3 rounds (gildedtalon won by grinding to level 54 in 2 Deathblows).
How to activate: Must play Hugo 1 before Chris 1. Then you will get a make a choice on how to respond when he meets her in Karaya Village; choose "You'll pay dearly!" (not "Why?!")
Chris Duel Sentences
-Attack
Put away your weapon.
Stop immediately. Or else....
Please stop. I don't see the meaning of this.
This kind of duel will not settle anything.
Let's put an end to this. Otherwise...
............ (only ONCE)
-Defense
That was courageous
My heart is not in this battle.
That's futile.
............ ............ (TWICE)
-Deathblow
I warn you, I can't promise your safety beyond this point.
I'm warning you. Sheath your blade.
Stop. Beyond this there is only injury.

Re: Hugo vs Chris duel guide
this looks fairly accurate, although if you are looking to update the duel guide, I believe there are several other duels with missing or incorrect information. I was planning to do another playthrough fairly soon, so when I do I'll try to make a note of the duels.

I thought it was impossible to win this one. Nice finding. It's a shame the game actually ignores such accomplishments...

Re: Hugo vs Chris duel guide
Direct from the horse's mouth (so to speak). I alphabetized them and removed the duplicates. I was going to attach the actual data, but the forum doesn't allow any file extensions other than images, by the look of it.
I don't see where the "......" sequences ever repeat or become any longer, but there's nothing that says they can't run a script that does that from time to time. In any case, it looks like her lines only duplicate between attack and defense, so you can play it safe or go for broke according to your whims.
Edit: Actually, there's one occurrence in the data where the "............" is a defense line, and it's immediately followed by the same thing as an attack. It looks to be properly terminated, but there could be a bug that causes both to get printed.
Edit 2: I almost forgot, and not to derail, but does Fred scream about Neclord a lot in the game? There's a bunch of data in here that almost looks like a fight with Neclord, and I don't remember ever seeing a scene like that. I guess it's possible that Fred is a crazy as his relative, but I don't remember that being an aspect of his character.

Code: Select all
Chris vs. Hugo (at Karaya)
En garde: "............"
Victory : "............"
Defeat : "How did it come to this?"
Attack:
"............"
"I do not wish to continue this fight."
"I'm telling you, give up now. After this I can't promise..."
"Let's put an end to this. Otherwise..."
"Please stop. I don't see the meaning of this."
"Put away your weapon."
"Stop immediately. Or else...."
"This kind of duel will not settle anything."
Death blow:
"I warn you, I can't promise your safety beyond this point."
"I'm warning you. Sheath your blade."
"I'm warning you, sheath your blade and step away."
"I'm warning you. Sheath your blade and step back."
"Stop. Beyond this there is only injury."
"This has no purpose. Stop at once."
Defend
"............"
"I do not wish to continue this fight."
"I don't want to fight you."
"My heart is not in this battle."
"Sorry to disappoint, but I have no interest in continuing."
"Stop this. I do not want to continue."
"That was courageous."
"That's futile."

Re: Hugo vs Chris duel guide
There's a whole play dedicated to Neclord when you have Suikoden II data. If they came from ETC.BIN, that's where they store the theatre scripts. Fred uses his own name no matter what role he's playing.

Ah, yeah. I completely forgot about the theatre mini-gameish thing.

Re: [Guide] Hugo vs Chris duel
For the record, it took me 15-16 hours of continous playing to get to that level
Here's what I do:
1.Save at Hugo's chapter one
2.Get to chapter 5 ASAP (no saving allowed)
3.Get a gameover and choose don't give up
Voila, you respawn on chapter one with a much higher level. Save afterwards or else my efforts are for naught
So technically, I'm not grinding

really? i'm pretty sure when you die without having saved, you'll continue at the beginning of the current chapter.

Re: [Guide] Hugo vs Chris duel
Nope, I got the idea from someone who suggested of a way to prepare Chris for the lvl 99 trick. He said to get to chapter 2/3, farm some levels then get a game over
Beginning of the current chapter? where did you get this idea? It revives you at the last point you saved

yes, if you fail to save at the start of a new chapter, when you die, you will restart at the most recent save file, even if that is one or more chapters in the past.

as far as I know it does, just like anytime you die, you should retain the updated stats and skills to you had obtained

Re: [Guide] Hugo vs Chris duel
I died in the beginning of Thomas' chapter from a creeper in Zexen forest. I hadn't saved since Trinity at the end of Chris chapter 3. When I hit to continue, the screen went from Thomas being hit by the water drop back to Chris, and went back to Trinity on Chris' flame.
You could literally save in say, Hugo chapter, finish it without saving, play through a bunch of someone else without saving and die, only to end up back at Hugo.
