I always figured that it depended on the rune. I mean they have different effects while on the bearer, why couldn't they have different after effects?

On another note, the first post asked why Sasarai didn't just die? In the graphic novel for the third game Luc states that Sasarai won't live for more than a week.

Good thing he got his rune back at the end of III then, isn't it. No wonder he wanted to work with the other elemental rune bearers, his life was at stake. . . although I suppose everyone's was since Luc wanted to destroy the world.
