Hi all umm i was reading a book on viking legends and myths and one of them involes a character called sigurd (the story is quite long) heres it in a nut shell
Years before the main part of the story there was a great warroir, sigurna who everyone loved he was worried that he may lose the next battle and die but his family prayed to odin and he gave them a enchanted sword , Sigurna won the battke and eventually became king when he was in his late fifties he had a battle where he was killec but before he was dead, on his death bed , he siad that his blde had shattered so he knew he had fought against odin (gods enjoyed to join in human affairs)
King god( odin) and trickstar god (loki) accidently kiled a mens son who had shape shifted into and otter, they beg for forgiveness and the men said that if they got enough gold to completely cover te son (otter) then he would forgive them alot of things happen and they eventually bget all this gold but lokii doesnt like to be in anyone's debt so he puts on the otter a cursed ring that makes the owner of it ,and their family go greedy for gold, ( the gods leave) anywat the man had two other sons and the eldest was also a shape shifter the other was a blacksmith in a town miles awy. the eldest drivedn by greed kills his father and morphs into a dragon and takes all the gold away to a cave.
the other son was aslo driven by greed wanted the gold so he tricked his apprentice, sigurd, into going to kill it. the son makes him sword after sword but each onne shattered. a couple of days later an eldarly men (odin disguised) gives him the shards of a sword and tells him that when they are mended they would be strong enough to kill the dragon but odin warns him to bath in the blood of the dragon for it will make him immortal even though sigurd has been told by the son that dragon blood is loke acid. So he goes and manges to kill the dragon but the son tries killing him after he does. Sigurd kills him easily and baths in the blood after he does he becomes atuned with nature and heres the birds voicers they earn him that he must not take the ring but he ignores them and riges off on his horse which leads him to a castle where he meets a beutiful girl. they instantly fall in love and he puts the ring on her finger.
the identity of the girl is thought to be either odin's daughter or a valkyrie
umm has this story have any relevance to sigurd from suiokoen 4 and tactics?
Sigurd

Indeed - following Asatru ( Viking ) beleifs myself the Suikoden "Sigurd" confused me to no end, there was no reason to call him that what-so-ever, but hey they've used it before.
Futch/Sharon's spear used the names Sigurd/Sigmund, again there's no real reason for it except perhaps on a long shot calling reference to Odin's spear ( named Gungnir ).
Though different areas of Vikings named gods and heroes differently, most often the father of Sigurd was named Sigmund, the sword he crafted to slay the dragon was called Gram, and yes it was a Valkyrie "BrynHilde" that Sigurd fell in love with.
