Name: Tierkreis

Post by Mio »

why this name?

wiki says its a german word for Zodiac

do you suppose the 108 SoD have a connection to the Zodiac signs

like say for example

the stars that compose the 12 Zodiac constellations are the 108 Stars of destiny

that was my quick assumption, did the news says different?

*pardon if this has been discussed on another thread, i did not subscribe to a 30 page thread*

i would assume it's a focus on the "Stars" aspect of being a Star of Destiny. that's why a new battle feature was added called "Mark of the Star", and even in the cutscene at the beginning of the game, the main character says to the villain "we'll release every Mark of the Star (on you)."
there will be a strong focus on the gathering (or re-gathering) of the Stars in this game.

This is pure speculation, but perhaps "Tierkreis" could have something to do with the Night Rune aka Star Dragon Sword aka Zodiac Sword? It's alleged child, Zerase, bears the unique Star Rune to boot.

That said, it's probably a representation of the 108 Stars of Destiny structure instead of the introduction of your typical Zodiac systems (be it Western, Chinese, etc).

Someone also pointed out in another thread that "Tierkreis" is the name of a musical composition by Stockhausen. Obviously it's still only speculation but like Rhapsodia, Tierkreis may have been chosen for musical reasons.

Have we heard if this name is being carried over to an English version? I would assume it would just be called Suikoden DS or something equally boring.

Yeah, it's confirmed. The NA trademark registration was actually the first hint that we got at this game, too.

"Suikoden Tierkreis". As usual, they drop "Gensou" from the English title.

I see "Suikoden DS" coming to Germany. Either way, I'm afraid it will get little to no attention here >.<

I can see this name causing trouble:

Previously:
Me: "Do you have Suikoden V in yet? It's out today"
EBgames lackie "What five?"
Me: "Suikoden . . . S-u-i-k-o-d-e-n"
EB: *types it in* "Well, it's supposed to be out, but we don't have it yet. Try back later"
Repeat later that day

Now:
Me: "Do you have Suikoden Tierkreis in yet? It's out today"
EBgames lackie "What what?"
Me: "Suikoden . . . S-u-i-k-o-d-e-n, Tierkreis . . . T-i-e-. . ."

you get the point. *sigh*

In that case, writing the title on paper in advance would help greatly, heh.

Haha

Suikoden names sure are unique for us fans. But it may also be a reason to lower its sales!

Y'know like:

Boy: to you have here a game named SooKOden?

Seller knowledgable of the right pronunciation: Nope.

I don't think I know the proper pronunciation.
buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut I've never asked an employee about it, I'd usually go look or just order it online. :/

"I wasn't getting rid of you. I want you to do whatever you want to do with me. I know that sounded dirty, and dirty things count, but I didn't mean the dirty things. You and me can hang whenever, wherever."
