stats and terrain effects
what do all the statistics in this game do for you?

not sure about everything, but...
STR - along with weapon's ATK, determines your physical attack power
MAG - adds power to spells (including Magic Sword attacks). for mages (including Lazlo), determines MP and increases chant speed.
SKL - determines normal attack accuracy, parry and counter rates. for non-mages, determines MP.
SPD - determines turn order (when your character can go again)
EVA - determines evasion rate from normal attacks
PDF - physical defense
MDF - magic defense
LUK - apparently determines character's Wounded/Death rate
MOV - determines maximum number of squares you can move. this stat does not change with leveling; skills and mounts can temporarily increase your MOV.
basically, the stats are the same as all the other Suikodens... and if that's so, then critical rate (and probably Smash rate) is based on SKL and LUK equally.

ending the turn on your affinity element heals your character by 20% of their Max HP
ending the turn on your opposite element hurts your character by 20% of current HP
