[FAQ] About fixing NTSC McDohl's name

Post by Occam Arkitect »

I only bothered to do this just now.('cause I'm repeating S2 just to know pesmerga's dialogue when he meets Tir in banner.)

So far I have looked upon that gamefaqs McDohl name patch-whatever guide, and since I'm only using gameshark lite, I used method 2. It says that when Tir's in your party, the name change code won't work yet until you look at book no.7 or the book about the gate rune war, save the game, then load w/o the code. Viola. After 69 tries, nothing works. This is the code I used:

8006 ABC4 194E
8006 ABC6 0022
8006 ABC8 0000
8006 ABCA 0000

I have followed all the instructions EXACTLY, and only the result won't show up. The code should replace my TcDohl with Tir.

Then w/o second thoughts I headed towards CMGSCC or whatever the site is, then happily there is a name change code. The drawbacks? Only the name in battle and menu will change. In dialogues, my original flawed TcDohl name is still said. And you have to load the code always when you play the game, or else the original name goes back. This is the code I used:

3006 8BFA 004E
3006 8BFB 0019
3006 8BFC 0022
3006 8BFD 0000
3006 8BFE 0000
3006 8BFF 0000
3006 8C00 0000
3006 8C01 0000

Anyone with a more helpful code/link or anything will be highly appreciated.

i have info, i'll try to post it up tonight. and some names with the same code in different situations get switched around because of bad coding. i think at some points, my fixed up "Toran" will be like "oTran" in minor places like the Old Book or Gregminster palace where the McDohl clothing is.

Yes! Help finally. By the way, I researched something about my codes, and found out that the codes: 8006 ABC....SHOULD BE8006 A8C...

Whew, I'll try it later. And yes, any codes will still be appreciated, I just got into GS'ing lately.

i never noticed that there were 2 mcdohl name code things, which is probably why i still had one messed up one in some places.

somehow, this is what i use just to make the first two letters "Mc"
30068BFA 1347

it seems to be a combination of the mcdohl name fix guide and cmgsccc code, but for me it covers 2 letters ...

bleh sorry i couldn't be of more help. it's been a long time and i don't have too much information to trace back to

I tried your code KFC but to no avail. Do I need to put in values for every single letter so the code works or only for the letters I want to change?

You just need the values for the specific letter, not all. As for me, I input 00's for blank letters...otherwise, my file would name McDohl "Tirohl".
