What Has Yoshitaka Murayama Been Up to?

Post by dragonmasterx »

Murayama's blog

He wrote the scenario for the recently released Tensho Gakuen Gekkoroku, a visual novel/SRPG published by Asmik Ace Entertainment. I take this to mean his own company didn't fare too well ever since Tsukiyo no Saraba.

The general fan opinion of Tensho Gakuen Gekkoroku is that the story and characters are good, but the battle system sucks. I've played it a bit and am disappointed at the lack of customizability; which was ok in the PS1 era. But nowadays, other PS2 visual novels offer variable fonts, turning off voice acting for certain characters, auto-scrolling text(the most important to me. Freeing your hands means you can eat, apply lotion, meditate, cut your nails, practice yoga, and more, all while reading the game, but this game makes you press circle to proceed with the text), a database file, etc. while this is missing all of that.

I realize that I'm reviving a VERY old topic at this point but...

I've noticed that there are some rather recent entires in his blog and Altavista Babelfish can't really make heads or tails of it. What has he been saying in them?

Nothing of any real importance, unfortunately.
His latest blog explains how his site was down because the bm.ai domain registration expired due to the company that sells the domain in Japan going out of business, and how he had to scramble to register it through some other company, etc.

Hey, does his blog have a picture anywhere? I've always wanted to see how he looks.

This is the second time I'm reviving this topic, even after two years.

This comes from a barely legible Altavista translation of Blue Moon Studios' Works page.

Whether it's Suikoden VI or not, I'm getting excited now.

Hmm, well we can only hope. At least it's an RPG, so if it's something else, maybe I'll still be interested.

Hmmm, interesting. For his previous projects, would he post entries like this?

Seems odd that he would post "unnamed game" for "unnamed company".

It's just to show that he's been active. Most developers post like that on their personal sites.

I will buy whatever that game is, if it sees a US release.

Hopefully, it also happens to be a Suikoden title.

Happens a lot, at least until the game is officially announced by the company.

If it just so happens to be related to the Genso Suikoden trademark that popped up recently, you can see how he'd want to keep that secret for a while.

TGS is here, and no information regard Suikoden VI.

However, with my hopes for a Murayama-written Suikoden VI severely (but not completely) diminished, I just had a thought.

This mystery RPG that Murayama's working on, what if it's none other than End of Eternity? You'd think with his Suikoden background that he wouldn't be anywhere near that project. But then you remember Tsukiyo ni Saraba.

Minor update to his blog today:

Nothing about games. He talks about his experiences working on the Magic the Gathering manga. He also mentions how card games are surprisingly deep money pits.

The manga that he's penning is available for viewing on MangaFox: http://www.mangafox.com/manga/magic_the ... inu_honoo/

I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but initial reviews seem very positive. I should also note that on the Dengeki website, it lists him with the "Blue Moon Studios" label, meaning that it is an official work of the company (however big it may be).

New blog entry. Parsing both the Google Translate and Babelfish translations was more difficult that usual, but it seems as though he is leaving Magic: The Gathering manga project.
