Weapon Growth

Post by killey »

complete guide here: http://www.suikosource.com/games/gs5/gu ... growth.php

Weapon growth seems kinda messed up in Suikoden V, as far as I can tell there are 6 different classes of weapons:

1. Baton, Book, Cndctr's Baton, Dual/Twin Swords, Katana (regular), Ninja-To, Parasol, Rapier
2. 2-Handed Sword, Gun, Iai Sword, Katana (Hazuki), Nodachi, Pickaxe, Shovel, Zweihander
3. Anchor, Bows, Chakram, Kunai, Mooring Rope, Needle, Throwing Knives, Trident (?!!)
4. Wands, Scepter, Staff
5. Bo, Claw, Guitar, Hammers, H.Boomerang, Knuckles, Mallets, Nagamaki, Pike, Spears, Whip
6. Mechanical Arm, Wrench, Tri-Section-Staves

No| 01 | 02 | 03 | 04 | 05 | 06 | 07 | 08 | 09 | 10 | 11 | 12 | 13 | 14 | 15 | 16 |
1. |010|015|030|045|055|075|110|120|130|150|165|180|200|210|220|230|
2. |020|030|045|060|075|085|120|130|140|155|170|185|220|230|240|255|
3. |020|030|045|060|080|100|120|135|145|160|170|185|210|220|230|245|
4. |005|010|020|030|040|050|070|080|090|115|125|140|160|170|185|200|
5. |010|020|035|050|075|090|110|125|140|160|170|180|190|210|230|250|
6. |010|020|030|045|055|070|110|125|135|150|165|180|210|220|235|255|

So can anyone fill in the missing numbers or see any mistakes? If not I should be able to fill the rest in soon enough as I go through my new game+

If anyone knows what some of the names are references to I'd be interested to know.

Alhazred: Books to do with Cthulhu
Belcoot: Names of artillery
Cathari: Fairy tales in German I think (Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and Snow White perhaps)
Dinn: Something to do with the Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night (Arabian Nights)
Miakis: Butterflies
Nelis: Nekhbet is the Godess of Kings/Upper Egypt, Dhwty is God of Wisdom
Roog: Dinosaurs
Yahr: Neshmet is Osiris' boat, Mesektet is Ra's night boat and Manjet is Ra's day boat.

How interesting. It seems that they are really pushing for the Egyptian style for the Island Nations. What a nice touch.

Also, note how all 5 returning characters have some of the more generic weapon names.

I am on a Newgame+ so I can't help you to complete right now... I'm only at the Sacred Games
But I recall Cathari's last weapon name => Schneewittchen
If I'm not mistaken, this means "Snow ...something" in German :o (I'm definitely sure for Schnee, but witchen...)
Sorry but I usually speak french, and I was the weakest of the german class  But I'm not sure that the "witchen" part means something, you know, because of the japanese-german (mis?)translated in english... :? (but maybe I just suck in german)
Also Georg's weapon is apparently the same as Suiko2's Georg. (I don't know about the attack though) Because his last weapon's name was Kumo (Cloud in japanese) in the french version of Suiko2, I don't know about the US version, but it's probably the same because Suiko2 french version is barley translated... you can even see some Italian sentences
Is it just me, or isn't there a lot of "old" returning weapons name in Suiko5 ? Like the 7-Stars Sword or the Night Bow...

Little OFF Topic
The french game probably went that way : Japanese - English - Italian - German - Portuguese - Greek - Klingon - French... That'll explain the "quality" of the translation. Also we have Suiko1 in english, Suiko2 in "french" (if we can say that), we didn't have Suiko3 (Doh !) BUT we recently have the Suiko3 mangas (sooo smart...), Suiko4 again in "french" (with english voices...) and we'll probably get an unfinished Korean version of Suiko5 with swedish voices

"wittchen" is definitely not "white" but it's probably that because her first weapon IS Red Hood. I can guess that Snow White's name in german isn't a literal translation and that's all. Anyway thanks ^^

In dutch Snow White is Sneeuwwittje. Dutch and German is very much alike so I think wittchen dous mean white.

"Weiß" or "Weiss" means "White", but my german skill doesn't allow me to insist more
10 years of german class for that... flame me.

EDIT :
I just remember Rahal's weapon last name => Lamphinian
