Odessa / Leon

Post by Celes »

I just stumbled across this scene. When you decline to hear Odessa's story in Sarady and state that you want to return to the Empire afterwars, she refers to Leon as her father

Never noticed this before.

That's a well-known mistranslation.

That is the official version at least.

That's one dangerous mistranslation.

But Leon did raise Mathiu, Odessa and their younger brother at some point?

I don't know, but it's making me want to replay this to find out.

Leon also raised Mathiu and Odessa, so it could be that she considers him a father.

If that is true, her description certainly paints a different picture from how Mathiu viewed Leon.

That's because Mathiu never forgave Leon for the Kalekka Incident, so he had a more....Tainted image of him.

The original line still reads "uncle".

Let's not use the butchered translation to justify old or come up with new theories.

I would think that Mathui and Leon were a bit of rivals within the scarlet moon empire as well.

Not sure if the two considered each other rivals, although the two clearly shared a common distrust of each other. Namely because it was Mathiu who introduced Leon to Barbarossa as a possible chief strategist during the Succession War. Unless Mathiu thought Leon was batter than him, he wouldn't make such a recommendation (back then, Mathiu was a strategist under Kasim Hazil). The Kalekka Incident is what made the two go separate ways.

Did the original lines give any indication of what Odessa thought of Leon?

first off , i really liked odessa and i really cried when she died. she was a great charecter. oh well...
anyway i think leon was like a uncle to her and mattiu. because i know he already had two sons and they were in suikoden 3. so there you have it.

He is more than "like an uncle" to them; he's their biological uncle. Also, Albert and Leon were his grandsons, not his sons. Leon had one son that we know of, named George.
