The second Princess of Astrasia, Fredegund is the younger sister of Chrodechild. After the fall of Pharamond, she found comfort in the Order’s tenets, as she felt saddened by her father's death, and also frustrated due to Chrodechild’s superior skill with the blade, no matter how hard Fredegund tried to surpass her. Fredegund served as an Order general, and came face to face with her sister when the Hero’s Company marched to reclaim Pharamond. Fredegund tells her associate Beardsley that she will fight, as she senses Chrodechild will show. Fredegund used Divine Edge, considered an almost sacrilegious act, as only the King has the right to wield that sword on the field of battle, to win the fight against her sister. When the Company, due to the assistance of Guntram and the citizens of Pharamond, make their way into the castle, Fredegund attempts to fight her sister again. When they clash blades, Chrodechild’s sword reveals itself to be a fragment of Divine Edge, and the two sisters can now fight on equal terms, which Fredegund has always wanted. Chrodechild emerges the victor. After the fight, Chrodechild reveals the reason why she trained and fought so hard: that she wanted to be a sister Fredegund could be proud off. Fredegund breaks down, and renounces her allegiance to the Order.

After Chrodechild disappears due to Diadora’s magic, Fredegund nearly panics, and begs her sister not to leave like that when she returns. She asks if she may fight by Chrodechild’s side when the Order attacks, to which Chrodechild accepts. The two sisters confront Beardsley, who tells Fredegund she could still return to the Order. But Fredegund refuses, and drives the Order away.

Fredegund still must deal with the fact that she is considered a traitor to some of her people. When Quillard confronts her, she cannot defend herself against his accusations, and only Amaralicht and the Hero prevent him from hurting her. When they move to rescue him, Fredegund does not state anything about her actions, but expresses that, just as Quillard worried his brother, she too worried her sister.

Fredegund continues to fight against the One King by her sister's side, and once he falls, she returns to Pharamond. To atone for her actions, she serves Queen Chrodechild and Astrasia devoid of rank or position. She is still sought out to teach swordsmanship. - Matt620
