A soldier from Cynas, Darrow is infatuated with Savina. However, the Order believes that life partners are predetermined, and that Darrow and Savina are not ordained to be together. The two of them secretly meet together, even though being caught together is a crime. When Darrow and Savina attempt to flee Cynas, Darrow tries to stall the soldiers, giving Savina time to escape. She does, and Darrow is taken back to Cynas. However, since the Order is in such upheaval dealing with the Hero’s company, Darrow is not taken for re-education or given any punitive action. He manages to escape to Fort Arc, where he hides from any soldiers he meets. He meets Savina again, who has now joined the Hero’s Company. They are reunited, and the Hero accepts Darrow into their army.

Eventually, he and Savina are wed in Cynas, their marriage a symbol of hope to all those beaten down after the war. - Matt620
