A militant Scribe, Hao-Shi does not tolerate the presence of humans in the forest, and believes that Liu becoming the Elder Scribe is tantamount to heresy, as the Scribes always lived in the woods and avoided human contact. He accuses Liu and the Hero of the death of Lao-Kwan, and only relents when Luo-Tao informs them of the Elderís wishes that Liu accept the position of Elder.
Hao-Shi remarks that the Scribes were the ones who helped Valfred obtain the True Chronicle, as he claimed, just as he claimed to Diadora, to want to use the power of the True Chronicle to prevent tragedies and loss of civilizations occurring when worlds fuse. As such, the Scribes cut themselves off from human contact to prevent such another rise to power.
When creatures from the Rarohenga come into the forest. Liu speculates that the Woodland Village is not safe, as the wards around the village are designed to repel and confuse humans. Hao-Shi disagrees, but the other Scribes follow Liuís advice to help repel the invaders. Hao-Shi joins with Liu and the monsters are routed. After the battle, Liu tells Hao-Shi that he doesnít care whether or not he is accepted as Elder, but he will save any village under attack. Hao-Shi then joins the Company. His conservatism wanes, and he resides in Cynas, helping to persuade other Scribes to leave the forest. - Matt620
